We’re working with Perth and Kinross Council, Meigle Primary School, Meigle Parent Council and other local community groups and volunteers to take forward a community food garden project for children, young people and local residents in the north-eastern corner of Meigle Bowling Green.
The new community food garden will bring a number of benefits to the village, helping to foster stronger connections throughout the local and wider community and bringing different age groups together to help shape its development.
Those involved will increase their knowledge and understanding of growing your own food, and children, young people and community members will have a growing space helping to provide fresh local produce, contributing to enhancing local food resilience and hopefully even reducing carbon emissions from food miles.
In addition, the physical area will be improved, giving it a new lease of life for all members of the community to enjoy both now and in the future.
Pupils at the school, particularly those in the school's Gardening Group, have lots of ideas for the space and we hope to be able to share more sophisticated visuals soon.
We’re currently looking for donations of garden tools and equipment such as trowels, forks, spades, rakes, hoes, plastic pots and seed trays, watering cans - anything you can think of that would be useful in a garden – and for volunteers to help in the garden.
Donated items can be dropped off at the school during term-time, and anyone interested in helping out at all can email macdt.info@gmail.com
