One priority identified in the Meigle and Ardler Community Action Plan was to complete and upgrade the path network between Meigle and Ardler, while another was to make more of our local environment and heritage.
The six-mile-long Meigle and Ardler Community (MAC) Trail – and events and attractions associated with it such as the Faerie Tree - addresses both these aspirations.
The MAC Trail is all about community and encouraging people to connect with each other, with nature and the surrounding landscape, and with our rich heritage. It offers a fresh perspective on some lesser-known historic sites by presenting events, locations and creative installations in an easily accessible way, and provides a new attraction to encourage visitors to the area.
Maintained by local volunteers, the waymarked trail also encourages outdoor activities such as walking and cycling as well as cheaper and more environmentally-friendly travel.
As part of this project, we’re capturing compelling stories from the local area and using interactive maps and QR codes so that people using the MAC Trail will be able to hear and read about the people and events that have shaped the landscape over centuries.
