Until Ardler Village Hall was built in 1952, dances were held in the school in Ardler. These postcard images seem to be from 1930 and 1932, and each photograph is accompanied by a separate card giving the names of the people in the photograph, apart from ones marked DK, which probably means ‘Don’t Know’. The reverse of both cards also bears the name ‘Mrs Shaw, Stripside’ who was presumably the person who identified the people in the photographs.
The photographs were printed as postcards by Laing’s Studios photographers from Blairgowrie, who also had shops in Forfar and Kirriemuir. Three generations of the Laing family were local photographers between and 1927 and 1993 and a short film about their work can be found on the Cateran Ecomuseum website.
